This study aimed to describe the behavioral traits of motorcycle taxi riders (mototaxistas) in Santa Marta, Colombia, using the Motorcycle Rider Behavior Questionnaire (MRBQ). Unlike regular motorcyclists, mototaxistas use their motorcycles as a source of income, which may influence their risk-taking behaviors and safety attitudes.
Between January and April 2024, data were collected from 450 participants. The MRBQ, originally composed of 45 items, was adapted to the socio-cultural context of informal motorcycle transport providers. The study applied factor analysis to determine key behavioral dimensions and used logistic regression models to analyze the relationships between demographic, behavioral, and operational factors.
A significant association was observed between increased riding frequency and higher occurrences of stunt activities, speeding, and traffic errors.
