Meta-research is the study of research itself, including its methods, reporting, reproducibility, evaluation, and incentives. In this talk, we will explore how reporting quality differs from methodological quality and why complete reporting is essential for maximising the impact of sports science research. As a particular example, we will review studies that assess the quality of reporting of different statistical approaches within the sports field, including clustering techniques, ordinal regression models, generalized linear mixed models, and time-to-event models. Additionally, we will discuss strategies that different research stakeholders (authors, ethics boards, scientific journals, and universities) can implement to enhance reporting quality. These examples stem from our research group's work on Sports Analytics within the government-funded SAFARI project, which covers topics like survival analysis, clinical trials, and statistical modelling.
