Historically mountain activities have been linked to rescues, injuries, and fatalities. Mountain rescues have expensive costs for society and the increase of rescues is becoming a concerning social issue because it poses health risks and places a significant financial burden on rescue teams. The present study focuses on the analysis of the spatiotemporal point pattern of mountain rescues between 2011 and 2021 in the 5 most concurred natural protected areas of Catalonia. In particular, we consider an empirical analysis of the first-order characteristic (point intensity), and then we propose a model in which the conditional intensity of the point process depends on some specific covariates affecting the distribution of these space-time point patterns. Our approach permits to identify the most important factor affecting mountain rescues in Catalonia.
